The perchloroethylene is an organic compound, stable at temperatures up to 500°C in the absence of a catalyst, moisture, and oxygen, but slowly decomposed in contact with water to form trichloroacetic and hydrochloric acids. Non-flammable. Belongs to the group of chlorinated solvents. It is a colorless liquid, almost insoluble in water. In the air there is a characteristic smell.

Application
• as an inert solvent capable of dissolving many organic substances. As such, it finds application in the processes of dry-cleaning services (dry cleaning);
• for degreasing metal and other surfaces in mechanical engineering and instrument making;
• in the processing of photopolymer printed boards — in the manufacture of needles for disposable syringes;
• included in the compositions for flushing paints;
• as an intermediate in the production of azoospermic CFC;
• as intermediate in obtaining trichloroacetic acid;
• in the textile and woodworking industries.
