The rheological additive Viscogel B4

Additive rheological VISCOGEL B4/S4 specially designed for systems based on organic solvent polarity from low to medium. In a typical coating systems (coatings and printing inks) additive VISCOGEL B4/S4 provides a thixotropic effect, SAG control, good leveling, and also prevents the settling of pigments during long-term storage. By their nature, additive rheological VISCOGEL B4/S4 is bentonite clay, organically modified Quaternary ammonium base is essential for development of organophilicity with the aim of increasing efficiency in organic medium.

Applications
Additive rheological VISCOGEL B4/S4 is widely used in production processes with the aim of providing rheological control of the system, namely, decorative paints and paints for industrial use, primers, bottom layers, printing ink (lithography, letterpress, gravure printing), grease, bitumen compounds, adhesives, mastics, sealers and waxes. Thanks to its stability from the point of view of expansion when working in the solvent polarity from low to medium additive VISCOGEL B4/S4 has proven itself in such solvents as mineral spirits aliphatic and aromatic series. Binders with low polarity, such as Alcide and terpenes, a substance based on petroleum products and styrene-butadiene rubber, are also compatible with VISCOGEL B4/S4.

The introduction of additives VISCOGEL B4/S4
VISCOGEL B4/S4 belongs to the group of ordinary organogels, which requires mechanical energy and a chemical (polar) activator to achieve the necessary level of separation of stacks of plastinates of organobentonite. that is achieved through the application of shear forces using the required dispersion (dispersive) equipment with subsequent addition of the polar substances, which shift is located between plastinkami, taking them, with an evident increase of viscosity of the gel. Since in most cases the heat is not significant, the preferred processing temperatures are temperatures exceeding 20°C. the Appropriate dispersing equipment are mixers and Cowles type Ultra-Turrax, as well as sand mill, ball mill and three-roll kraskoterke. Required polar activators are alcohols with low molecular weight (e.g. methanol and ethanol), which are always mixed with water in a ratio of 95:5. And even in the absence of water can be used propylene carbonate.
CHEMICAL ACTIVATOR DOSE (based on weight loss supplements VISCOGEL)
Methanol/H2O (95:5) 33%
Ethanol/H2O (95:5) 50%
Acetone/H2O (95:5) 60%
Propylene carbonate (95:5) 33%
Propylene carbonate 33%
It is always necessary to determine the correct level of additives based on the experiment. Defective chemical activator or its excess reduce development viscosity. In the market there are other types of chemical dispersing agents based on surfactants, which act as dispersing agents on top of plastinates supplements VISCOGEL B4/S4, and should be used only after it has occurred dispersing organogeny.
To enter supplements VISCOGEL B4/S4 can be used the following methods:
1.Input method supplements "on the spot". Supplement VISCOGEL B4/S4 is entered directly in powder form to the mixture of solvent and resin prior to adding pigment and grinding. It is desirable to moisten organogeny and disperse, and then add the polar activator or to the input of the pigment, or after. Last added surfactant.
2.Method with the use of "Pregel". Additive pre-turns into a gel as outlined above, at a concentration equal from 5 to 10%, in an appropriate solvent and in the presence of the polar activator. Then the activated gel is added to a binder solution and mixed. And after adding the pigment mixture, finally, crushed. A higher concentration of the activated gel (15-20%) can be obtained by using the appropriate dispersion additives that are always added after the complete dispersion of organogeny.
Dosage
The amount of additive is strongly dependent on the type of system and the degree of thickening or other properties required. For paints used in household purposes, and dyes for industrial use usual levels range from 0.2% to 0.6% of dry powder VISCOGEL B4/S4, which is sufficient to impart desired properties to the paint, in particular protivolodochnyi. For coatings and printing inks require higher levels of additives (from 5.1% to 1%). Eliminating stains can be used to 0.3% powder VISCOGEL B4/S4.
Stability during storage
During 12 months of storage of the product, its quality and properties are not appreciably reduced. The product is best stored dry and indoors in sealed bags.
Packaging
Paper bags weighing 25 kg on wooden pallets weighing 1200 kg each.
