Cation Resin KU-2-8

Formula: R-Na, R-H GOST/CAS: ГОСТ 20298-74 / CAS 69011-20-7

Cation Exchanger KU-2-8 is a highly efficient, gel-type strongly acidic cation exchange resin (sulfonated polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene). The product exhibits exceptional chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, and oxidizing agents, combined with high mechanical strength and thermal stability. Due to its highly stable ion-exchange kinetics, KU-2-8 serves as an indispensable core component in deep demineralization and water softening systems for thermal and nuclear power plants, as well as various heavy industrial applications.

Applications

Industrial Water Treatment: Widely used for softening (removal of hardness ions—calcium and magnesium) and demineralization of water at thermal power plants, nuclear power stations, boiler facilities, and large-scale manufacturing plants.
Hydrometallurgy & Electroplating: Utilized for the extraction, separation, and concentration of non-ferrous, rare, and precious metals from solutions and wastewater streams, as well as for the regeneration of spent electrolyte solutions.
Chemical Industry: Acts as an effective catalyst in organic synthesis processes (esterification, alkylation, hydration) and is applied in the purification of various process solutions.
Food & Pharmaceutical Industries: Employed in specialized treatment plants for the deep purification of circulating process water, sugar-containing solutions, and sensitive technological media.

Key Advantages

High Exchange Capacity: Demonstrates excellent operating and total exchange capacities, minimizing regeneration cycle frequency and reducing chemical regenerant consumption.
Osmotic & Mechanical Stability: The uniform spherical beads are highly resistant to attrition and sudden pressure drops within the filter bed, significantly reducing material loss during backwashing.
Versatility & Chemical Resistance: Retains its performance characteristics across a broad pH range and tolerates aggressive chemical environments and operating temperatures up to 120 °C.
Cost-Efficient Operation: Easily regenerated using standard sodium chloride (NaCl) or acid solutions (HCl), ensuring an extended service life of several years under proper operating conditions.

Storage & Transportation

  • Store in original, airtight packaging in dry, closed warehouse facilities at temperatures not lower than +2 °C.
  • Important: Prevent the resin from drying out, as dehydration leads to bead cracking. If the product freezes (below 0 °C), it must be thawed slowly at room temperature prior to use.
  • Protect from direct sunlight and avoid proximity to heating appliances.
  • Transportable by all modes of covered transport in strict compliance with standard freight regulations. The product is classified as non-hazardous for transport. Guaranteed shelf life is 1 year from the date of manufacture.
