Siccatives (Driers)

Formula: M(OOCR)n (M=Co, Pb, Mn, Zr, Ca, Zn) GOST/CAS: 1003-92 (GOST), 136-52-7 (Co Octoate), 15956-14-6 (Mn Octoate)

Siccatives (also known as paint driers) are auxiliary substances (catalysts) used to accelerate the drying process of paint and varnish materials. They are solutions of salts of various metals (cobalt, manganese, zinc, zirconium, calcium, etc.) in organic acids. Due to their ability to activate oxidation and polymerization, they are an indispensable functional additive in the production of paints, varnishes, drying oils, and printing inks.

Applications

Paint and Varnish Industry: Used as a primary additive in the production of paints, enamels, and varnishes to reduce drying time and improve coating quality. Ensures uniform film curing.
Drying Oils and Oils: Added as a fast-drying component in the processing of non-drying or semi-drying oils, as well as in the production of natural and synthetic drying oils.
Printing (Printing Inks): Applied as a drying agent in printing inks to ensure rapid drying on paper or other surfaces after printing and to prevent smudging.
Unsaturated Polyester Resins: Acts as an accelerator to initiate faster curing of the resin at room temperature in the production of fiberglass plastics and polymer concretes.

Key Advantages

Fast Drying Efficiency: Ensures uniform drying of both surface and internal layers of paint and varnish coatings in a very short time.
Excellent Compatibility: Easily mixes with various organic solvents (white spirit, xylene) and binders (alkyds, oils) without forming precipitates.
Improved Coating Quality: Increases the hardness and gloss of the dried film, preventing the appearance of wrinkles or defects on its surface.
Long-term Stability: Does not lose its catalytic properties during prolonged storage and remains evenly distributed in liquid mixtures.

Storage & Transportation

  • Store in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area in strict compliance with fire safety regulations.
  • Avoid contact with open flames, sparks, and strong oxidizers (the product is flammable).
  • Protect from direct sunlight and moisture; containers must be hermetically sealed.
  • Shelf life: 12 months (depending on the type of siccative).
