Diethylhydroxylamine (DEHA)
General Chemistry

Diethylhydroxylamine (DEHA)

Formula: C₄H₁₁NO GOST/CAS: 3710-84-3

Diethylhydroxylamine (DEHA) is a clear, colorless to slightly yellowish liquid with a characteristic amine odor. It is a highly effective organic oxygen scavenger and corrosion inhibitor. Due to its volatile properties, DEHA provides protection not only in the water phase but also throughout steam and condensate lines, preventing corrosion across the entire system.

Applications

Power Generation: Removal of residual dissolved oxygen from feed water in high, medium, and low-pressure boilers. Protection of condensate return lines.
Water Treatment: Used as a passivator for metal surfaces to prevent scale formation and oxygen-induced corrosion.
Petrochemical Industry: Acts as an efficient polymerization inhibitor during the production of synthetic rubbers (e.g., SBR) and various monomers.
Chemical Synthesis: Utilized as a stabilizer for organic compounds and as an intermediate in fine organic synthesis.

Key Advantages

Volatility and Steam Protection: Unlike inorganic oxygen scavengers, DEHA is volatile and carries over with steam, ensuring full protection of the steam-condensate system from carbonic acid and oxygen corrosion.
Surface Passivation: Promotes the formation of a stable magnetite film on metal surfaces, significantly extending the operational life of equipment.
Low Toxicity: Serves as a safer alternative to hydrazine, offering much lower toxicity and non-carcinogenic properties, which simplifies handling.
No Solids Contribution: Does not increase the dissolved solids content (TDS) in boiler water, reducing the frequency of boiler blowdowns.

Storage & Transportation

  • Store in original, tightly closed packaging in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area away from heat sources.
  • Avoid contact with strong oxidizers and acids.
  • Protect from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Transportation is carried out by all modes of transport in compliance with regulations for hazardous goods (flammable liquid).
