Butanol

Normal butyl alcohol (n-butanol) is a colorless, transparent, flammable liquid with a characteristic odor (resembling fusel oil). It is one of the most important industrial organic solvents, possessing excellent dissolving power. Butanol effectively dissolves fats, waxes, natural and synthetic resins, as well as rubbers. The product is widely used in the production of paints and coatings, and serves as a critically important intermediate in organic synthesis (production of butyl acetate, butyl acrylate, and plasticizers).

Applications

Coatings production: Solvent for nitrocellulose varnishes, paints, enamels, and a film leveling improver (prevents blushing/cloudiness).
