Polyacrylamide Copolymer (PAM)

Formula: (C3H5NO)x · (C3H4O2)y GOST/CAS: CAS 25085-02-3 / 9003-05-8

Polyacrylamide copolymer (PAM) is a high-molecular-weight, water-soluble polymer widely used in industry as a highly effective flocculant, coagulant, and thickener. It is a synthetic copolymer of acrylamide with other monomers (for example, with acrylic acid to produce anionic grades). Due to its long molecular chain, PAM effectively binds fine suspended particles in a liquid, forming large flakes (flocs) that then settle quickly or are easily filtered out. The product is a white or slightly yellowish granular powder with no distinct odor, which dissolves well in water to form a viscous gel. It is important to note that prepared polyacrylamide solutions are sensitive to strong mechanical agitation (shear stress), which can break the polymer chains and reduce the product's efficiency.

Applications

Wastewater and drinking water treatment (municipal and industrial water treatment, sludge dewatering)
Oil production industry (thickener for drilling fluids and reagent for enhanced oil recovery)
Pulp and paper industry (fiber and filler retention, white water treatment)
Mining and mineral processing (slurry settling, tailings thickening, and mineral beneficiation)

Key Advantages

High efficiency at low dosages (significantly reduces reagent consumption compared to traditional mineral coagulants).
Versatility of application (maintains high binding capacity over a wide pH range and at various water temperatures).
High flocculation rate (ensures rapid formation of large, dense, and stable flocs, accelerating technological settling processes).

Storage & Transportation

  • In tightly closed original packaging (kraft paper bags with a moisture-resistant polyethylene liner), as the product is highly hygroscopic and can clump together when in contact with moist air.
  • In dry, cool, and well-ventilated indoor warehouses, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat sources.

Technical Specifications

Dry matter mass fraction (purity) ≥ 88.0% – 92.0%
Appearance White or slightly yellowish free-flowing granular powder
Dissolution time (in water) 40–90 minutes (depending on molecular weight)

Supply info

  • Multi-layer kraft bags 25 kg (with inner PE layer)
  • Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC/Big bags) 750 kg – 1000 kg
