Polyacrylamide copolymer (PAM) is a high-molecular-weight, water-soluble polymer widely used in industry as a highly effective flocculant, coagulant, and thickener. It is a synthetic copolymer of acrylamide with other monomers (for example, with acrylic acid to produce anionic grades). Due to its long molecular chain, PAM effectively binds fine suspended particles in a liquid, forming large flakes (flocs) that then settle quickly or are easily filtered out. The product is a white or slightly yellowish granular powder with no distinct odor, which dissolves well in water to form a viscous gel. It is important to note that prepared polyacrylamide solutions are sensitive to strong mechanical agitation (shear stress), which can break the polymer chains and reduce the product's efficiency.
