Food Chemistry

Liquid Caustic Soda 48–50%

Formula: NaOH GOST/CAS: CAS 1310-73-2

Liquid Caustic Soda 48–50% (Sodium Hydroxide, purified caustic soda) is a highly concentrated aqueous solution of a strong alkaline base. The product is a clear, colorless or slightly colored, odorless oily liquid. The food-grade modification is distinguished by its high level of purity and minimal content of impurities such as chlorides and heavy metals. Due to its powerful saponifying, dissolving, and pH-regulating properties, it is an indispensable component in the food industry, detergent manufacturing, water treatment, and chemical synthesis.

Applications

Food Industry (E524): Used as an acidity regulator and a cleaning agent for equipment and production lines (CIP washing). It is applied in the production of cocoa products, chocolate, caramel, for softening olives, and in baking to give a glossy crust to products like pretzels.
Detergent Manufacturing: Serves as a primary raw material for saponifying fats in the production of soap, shampoos, as well as professional liquid and powder cleaning agents that effectively remove fat and protein stains.
Water Treatment & Purification: Used to neutralize acidity (pH adjustment) in wastewater and process water, as well as for the regeneration of ion-exchange filters at water treatment plants.
Textile & Pulp and Paper Industry: Employed for the mercerization of cotton, fabric treatment, and in pulp cooking and bleaching processes to remove lignin.

Key Advantages

High Purity Grade: Its food-grade status guarantees strict compliance with rigorous safety standards, featuring minimal heavy metal and carbonate content, which prevents sediment formation.
Maximum Cleaning Performance: Instantly breaks down and saponifies organic residues, fats, proteins, and carbon deposits, ensuring pristine cleanliness of food processing equipment.
Convenient Dosing: The highly concentrated liquid form (48–50%) eliminates the need to pre-dissolve dry chemicals, making it easy to automate product delivery into processing lines.
Effective pH Regulator: Possesses a strong alkaline reaction, allowing precise and economical adjustment of the acid-base balance in solutions and wastewater.

Storage & Transportation

  • Store in airtight containers made of alkali-resistant materials (alkali-resistant plastic, stainless steel) in dry, well-ventilated warehouses.
  • Recommended temperature control: Do not allow the temperature to drop below +12°C to +15°C, as a 50% caustic soda solution begins to crystallize (freeze) at approximately +12°C. If necessary, provide heating systems for the storage tanks.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and contact with acids, aluminum, zinc, and other active metals to prevent violent chemical reactions.
  • Transportation must be carried out by specialized transport vehicles (tank trucks, IBC totes) in compliance with the regulations for dangerous goods (classified as Class 8 — corrosive substances).
